Yesterday was the Tour of Anchorage. It is the 2nd largest ski marathon in the country. D and I had registered for the 25K, and we managed to talk our husbands into doing the same. Originally the boys were going to carry a keg in a backpack for the whole race. Welllll, it was frozen before the race even started so they had to ditch it. It was chilly in the morning but once we got going it warmed up nicely. About 1/2 through we thought, hmm, we should be close to being done now. Nope, we were exactly 1/2 way. The race turned out to be much longer than we expected. It was fun though and the views were gorgeous! It's a nice trail that takes the racers through the parks in the city, around the coastal trail and back into Kincaid park. It was a clear day so the mountains were beautiful. We did see a moose snoozing off to the side of the trail. I was too much of a chicken to stop and take a picture. It was also amazing to watch all those talented racers go whizzing by. It was definitely worth doing and I'm not nearly as sore as I thought I would be today. Next time I think I will consider training!

Today was Bib Pick up for the Tour of Anchorage race. We are doing the 25K classical race. I'm pretty excited and a little nervous. It should be fun, but it's going to be cold and hopefully not windy. The boys are planning on bringing along beer. Sometimes that's the only way we can talk them into doing these things! I've never done this race before and at bib pickup they had some pretty sweet knit caps to purchase. Sometimes I wonder where our race fee's go when it's becoming more common to have to purchase the race shirts or there's nothing offered at all. I'm sure it's for a good cause, or at least I'm hoping it is.

D and I completed our first adventure race today! It was the Women Rock Winter Adventure Race. It was the first time this type of race had ever been held in Anchorage. It was a challenging course that consisted of D pulling me on sled while ice skating on West Chester Lagoon, then we switched to snowshoes and while still pulling the sled we found 13 flags at various points between the lagoon and Goose Lake. The final event was to dig for a dinosaur that was buried within a 6ft radius around a flag. It took us 5 1/2 hours but it was full of laughs. Our sled appeared to be drunk so we named her "Rehab Betty" it was later changed to "Riveted Betty". We only managed to get lost once, which is unusual for us, and that I can say was due to the last point not being correctly marked on the map. I'm looking forward to competing in another adventure race now that I've gotten my feet wet, or frostbitten, ha ha ha.

Today my husband and I celebrated Valentine's Day a little late with a Sweetheart Ski on Elmendorf. There were about 8 couples that participated in the 3/4 mile ski. We didn't win but everyone got t-shirts. That's why we do it right, for the great loot ;-) It was a beautiful course and the snow was falling with the big fat flakes. It was the first time they had this race and I'm looking forward to doing it next year.

The Ski For Women was today. D and I had a great time. It's refreshing to get so many women together in the winter and just have fun. Dayna made us glittery capes and fun stocking caps. The husbands came out to cheer us on, they were good sports about the cold weather!
